Why Tracking Your Nutrition is a Game Changer
Why Tracking Your Nutrition is a Game Changer
They say it’s 70% nutrition and 30% training—but I don’t see it that way. To me, it’s 100% of both. Just like a car needs both fuel and an engine to run, your results depend on both training and nutrition working together.
When it comes to progress—whether it’s physique changes or performance improvements—nutrition plays a massive role. There are two key factors to get under control:
Total caloric intake (how much you eat)
Macronutrient distribution (how those calories are split between protein, carbs, and fats)
These two factors directly impact your weight loss or gain, your body composition, and even your day-to-day life—from your energy levels at work to your performance in training, your social life, and beyond.
What Determines Your Nutritional Needs?
Your total calories and macro split depend on multiple factors, including your height, weight, age, sex, fitness goals, health history, and overall activity levels. Whether you're aiming for muscle gain, fat loss, or performance improvement, these factors all play a role in shaping your nutritional needs.
Because of this, it’s always best to consult a healthcare professional, especially a registered dietitian, to tailor your nutrition plan. But setting targets is just the start—what you actually eat is another story. And that’s where food logging comes in.
How This Helps Your Progress
Food logging puts you in control of your nutrition, giving you a clear picture of your eating habits and how they impact your results. More importantly, it provides your coach or dietitian with real data, allowing them to make informed adjustments. By tracking your intake, we can see what’s working, identify patterns in weight fluctuations, and make necessary changes when progress slows. Whether it’s fine-tuning your macros, increasing calories to fuel performance, or making small tweaks to break through a plateau, having this information ensures every adjustment is backed by real insights—not guesswork.
But beyond just the numbers, the biggest advantage of tracking your food yourself is that you learn the process. Over time, you develop a deeper understanding of nutrition—what different foods provide, how portion sizes actually look, and how your choices affect your energy, performance, and progress. The more you log, the more intuitive it becomes, making it easier to make smart, informed decisions without feeling restricted.
JAG Fitness Clients – Here’s What’s New!
To help every JAG Fitness client take full control of their nutrition, food tracking is now included as part of your coaching service. This will allow us to fine-tune your nutrition and make real-time adjustments to keep you progressing without frustration.
Here’s how to get started:
Download MyFitnessPal (or another food-tracking app).
Set up your goals on the app using your NutriDashboard (kcal and macronutrients), which you can find in your Client Master File.
Add your coach to the app so we can monitor and adjust as needed.
This isn't about strict dieting or obsessing over every calorie—it’s about gathering accurate data so we can make informed decisions. When progress slows or plateaus hit, we’ll have clear insights into your intake and can adjust accordingly. Whether you need to eat more to fuel performance, tweak macros to optimize recovery, or dial things in for fat loss, tracking will help us do that without the guesswork.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. This is all about making your fitness journey smoother, more effective, and built for long-term success.
Let’s get to work—your results start with what’s on your plate.
